BJP Spokesperson Savio Rodrigues on Tuesday urged the government, Indian Football Associations, and Indians who will be visiting Qatar to boycott the FIFA World Cup in response to the invitation to controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik by Qatar.
During a time when the world is battling terrorism, Rodrigues said giving Naik a platform would be like giving a “terror sympathiser” a platform to spread hate.
In solidarity with the global fight against terrorism, the BJP leader appealed to the country’s residents and foreigners who are victims of terrorism to boycott the World Cup.
Rodrigues said that Naik has been instrumental in spreading “Islamic radicalism and hatred in India”.
Under Indian law, Zakir Naik is on the run. He has been accused of money laundering and hate speech, and he is a terror sympathiser. In fact, he is a terrorist himself. Rodrigues said he supported terrorist Osama bin Laden and spread Islamic radicalism and hatred in India.
The Qatari state-owned sports channel Alkass quoted presenter Faisal Alhajri on Twitter as saying on Saturday: “Preacher Sheikh Zakir Naik will give many religious lectures throughout the World Cup.”
As stated in the notification, the IRF founder has also promoted forcible conversion of youth to Islam, justified suicide bombings, and posted objectionable comments against Hindus, Hindu Gods, and other religions.
