Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders have sought an appointment with President Droupadi Murmu to seek Nisith Pramanik’s removal from government after a West Bengal court issued an arrest warrant in connection with two jewellery store thefts.
In connection with the arrest warrant issued against Pramanik, who represents West Bengal’s Cooch Behar Lok Sabha constituency, TMC Parliamentary Party leaders Sudip Bandyopadhyay (Lok Sabha) and Derek O’Brien (Rajya Sabha) have sought an appointment for the matter.
According to sources, Trinamool leaders will demand that Pramanik, a cabinet minister in Narendra Modi’s government, be dismissed immediately.
As soon as the appointment is granted, sources added, a seven-member delegation will visit Delhi.
The minister and another accused were arrested on November 11 after an arrest warrant was issued.
According to PTI, there wasn’t a lawyer present at the time when the warrant was issued to represent the minister.
There were theft incidents in 2009 at jewellery shops near Alipurduar railway station and Birpara.
