As the “main piece of evidence”, the Punjab Police’s cyber cell has sent the mobile phones of three suspects in the Chandigarh University video “leak” case for forensic examination.
A co-hosteller is accused of recording objectionable videos of girl students in a common washroom and sending them to her male friends. According to the police, the investigation is still at the verification stage, and the suspects are being investigated.
Four suspects, whose involvement in the investigation came to light on Monday, were friends of arrested youths Sunny Mehta and Rankaj Verma. As well as exchanging videos and messages with the girl, he kept in touch with her.
Gurpreet Kaur Deo, the head of the SIT, replied to speculation about the surfacing of 12 videos allegedly recorded by the suspect girl and the identification of the fourth suspect as Mohit: “It is incorrect…”. It is not my role to discuss the investigation.” Rupinder Kaur Bhatti, the SIT in-charge, said they had not arrested any new suspects. She said that many things are emerging during the investigation. There is a possibility that videos and photos may have been stored in devices on Sunny and Rankaj’s phones in Rohru and Shimla, respectively.
SIT member Rupinderdeep Kaur Sohi and Kharar DSP Rupinderdeep Kaur Sohi visited the campus today. Experts led by Dr Ashwani Kalia scanned the washrooms for possible bugging. The forensic report is expected soon.
