Commercial LPG cylinders were reduced in price on Thursday, 1 September, due to recession fears. Liquid petroleum gas (LPG) used in commercial cylinders has been reduced by Rs 91.50 per 19-kg cylinder. According to the Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOC) website, the 19-kg commercial cylinder will now cost Rs 1,885 in Delhi instead of Rs 1,976.50 earlier. Gas cylinder users, such as hotels, restaurants, and other businesses, will benefit from this price revision. The price of domestic LPG cylinders has not changed, so households are not relieved.
The price of the 19-kg LPG cylinder in Mumbai has been reduced from Rs 1,936.50 to Rs 1,844. It will cost Rs 1,995 to purchase the 19-kg cylinder in Kolkata, down from Rs 2,095.50 previously. It will now cost Rs 2,045 in Chennai. Depending on the local VAT, rates vary from state to state. The price has also been reduced in other metro areas, according to Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL). Once a month, LPG rates for commercial purposes are revised.
People’s pockets are still burning out from domestic LPG cylinders. In July, the price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder increased by Rs 50. Delhi consumers are now paying Rs 1,053.50 for a 14.2-kg cylinder. Rates increased from Rs 1,029 to Rs 1,079 per cylinder in Kolkata. There is an increase in the price of the 14.2-kg domestic cylinder in Mumbai and Chennai, which is now set at Rs 1,052. 50 and Rs 1,068. 50 respectively.
Since May 22, petrol and diesel have remained unchanged in the national capital at Rs 96.72 and Rs 89.61 per liter, respectively. Despite the fact that oil marketing companies (OMCs) sell 14.2-kg cylinders to domestic households at the open market price, the government provides subsidies to beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana through direct benefit transfers to their bank accounts every year for 12 of these cylinders.
