AICC President Election Live News Update: The carefully curated fight between a traditionalist candidate and an honourary candidate representing the rebellious G-23 leaders has ended with the fall of Ashok Gehlot.

It’s game over now. More names have emerged Thursday as the race for Congress president heats up. G-23 leaders, including Bhupinder Hooda, Manish Tewari, and Prithviraj Chavan, are reported to have met at Anand Sharma’s residence and discussed the current situation.

There was no confirmation that Tewari would file his nomination papers for the election, according to sources. He will file his nomination papers on Friday for the top post in the party, Shashi Tharoor, who was part of the G-23.

Additionally, Chavan said they had thanked Congress chief Sonia Gandhi for the free and fair elections earlier, stating that the internal elections had been held in a democratic manner.

As of now, Mallikarjun Kharge is expected to be the “official” candidate backed by Congress’ high command in this year’s presidential race. In addition to Digvijaya Singh and Shashi Tharoor, he will file his nomination for the October 17 elections today, they said.
