Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has been instructed to investigate a viral video allegedly showing a man delivering ‘namaz’ with a woman sitting beside him inside the Taj Mahal’s garden area.

According to ASI’s superintending archaeologist for the Agra circle, Raj Kumar Patel, “We have come across an apparently viral video of a man offering namaz near the Taj Mahal’s premises.

The authenticity of the video is uncertain, especially since no Taj Mahal employee witnessed such an event on Sunday. I was also on Taj Mahal property on Sunday but encountered no such incident.”

As the ASI official explained: “We are investigating the matter since ‘namaz’ cannot be offered on Taj Mahal premises, and ‘namaz’ can only be offered at masjids within the Taj Mahal compound on Fridays, by people around Taj Mahal who have been allocated passes.”

The security check at the Taj Mahal has also been enhanced, especially on days when the number of visitors is much higher than usual, to prevent such incidents taking place.

Right-wing activists have been protesting against such incidents and have claimed that the Taj Mahal was originally a Shiv temple.
