Government schools are still exempt from biometric attendance almost a year after Covid-19 restrictions were lifted.
During 2018, the government introduced biometric attendance systems in schools to reduce absenteeism among the education department’s staff.
As a result of the Covid-19 breakout in 2020, all government offices and schools temporarily stopped using the biometric attendance system.
Around two months ago, the attendance system was reinstated in several Education Department offices.
The Covid-19 restrictions were lifted on March 15 of last year, but it hasn’t happened in schools.
There was no response to messages or phone calls sent to Principal Secretary (Education) Jaspreet Talwar.
