Every year, Surat’s Katargam area features a diamond shaped like Ganpati on Ganesh Chaturthi. In every year’s festival, the Pandav family brings out a 27-carat diamond valued at Rs 500 crore, which they found 16 years ago.

As in previous years, the idol-like diamond is the center of attention this year as well.

In Surat, also known as the ‘diamond city’ of the country, the family found the Ganesha idol while working for a diamond broker. Rather than selling it, the family decided to keep it.

Every year on Ganesh Chaturthi, the family brings out the rock they found years ago and worships it. A test by Diamonds of India confirmed that it was naturally occurring. Additionally, the family is able to prove that it is the only diamond of its kind on the market. There is a value of Rs 500 crore attached to the 27-carat diamond, according to the family.

The family puts the diamond back inside the locker after the 10 days of Ganesh Chaturthi are over.
