Mandya (Karnataka): Members of some right-wing groups marched to a mosque in Srirangapatna, a historically important town in Karnataka’s Mandya district, on Saturday (June 4).
It is believed that the mosque sits on the ruins of a Hanuman temple. According to the members of the groups, they will perform puja at the Jamia Masjid in the town.
In the meantime, Section 144 CrPC has been imposed in the area for 12 hours today, between 6 am and 6 pm, in response to the ‘Srirangapatna Chalo’ call by a right-wing organization on Saturday. A total of 500 police personnel have been deployed, and four checkpoints have been established. The weekly market has been postponed, and liquor sales have been banned within a 5-km radius of the area, said S Ashwathi, Deputy Commissioner of Police.
