Reuters: Azovstal fighters will be tried in breakaway region during Ukraine-Russia conflict

Donetsk’s leader said Monday that he would stand trial in the breakaway region for the fighters who surrendered at Azovstal steel plant.

Denis Pushilin told reporters that Azovstal’s prisoners are being held on the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic.

Additionally, an international court will be set up on the territory of the republic, the leader said.

The invasion of Ukraine by Russia began on 24th February. As Moscow intensified its attack in the eastern Donbas region, Ukraine has said it will not agree to any ceasefire deal that would require it to surrender territory to Russia. Ukraine’s martial law has been extended through 23 August by Zelenskiy for three months.

Zelenskiy asked the Ukrainian parliament to permit the use of the symbols “Z” and “V,” which were used by Russian troops to promote their war in Ukraine. YouTube has also taken down more than 70,000 videos and 9,000 channels related to the war in Ukraine for violating content guidelines, including videos referring to the invasion as a “liberation mission.”
