As part of a historic public rally in J&K’s Rajouri town on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to announce ST reservation for the Pahari community.
In and around the venue at the town’s bus stand, high security is being maintained by members of the Pahari community from Rajouri and the neighboring Poonch district.
A delegation of Paharis, Gujjars/Bakarwals, Dogras, and Sikhs met Shah at the Raj Bhavan on Monday evening.
As Shah reached Jammu on a three-day tour, he tweeted, “Reached Jammu and Kashmir on a three-day tour. Looking forward to having dialogue with the people of J&K”.
Another comment he made was, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a Government holiday on the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh in recognition of his contribution to making Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of the country”.
A visit to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi district will precede the Union home minister’s flight to Rajouri.
In J&K, he will inaugurate 14 urban development projects, 48 roads totaling 269.41 kilometers, eight bridges, and 10 power distribution/transmission projects.
As part of the Jal Jeevan Mission, he will also lay the foundation stone for 41 water supply schemes.
In addition to distributing Land Pass Books, he will launch 225 Citizens Centric Online Services, 1000 cooperatives, and the second edition of the District Good Governance Index for 2021-2022.
A meeting between Shah and senior BJP leaders will take place at 3.30 p.m. at Jammu Convention Centre today.
