“Punjab should be run only by Punjabis. Bhagwant Mann, you are the Chief Minister of Punjab, and Punjab should not be run from Delhi. Kejriwal shouldn’t pressure Bhagwant Mann.”

Rahul Gandhi made this statement during a public meeting here today.

He reached Tanda in the evening as part of his Bharat Jodo Yatra. While traveling from Chaulang toll plaza to Darapur, Rahul and the yatra were given a grand welcome by former minister Sangat Singh Giljian.

Rahul told a large crowd in Tanda that Mann should work independently, listening to the hearts of the farmers and workers. In Punjab, whenever the Congress party ruled, it used the philosophy that the Chief Minister should run the province.

Former PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu and son Karan Sidhu met Rahul in Adampur near here just 10 days before he is likely to be released from Patiala jail.

In the afternoon, Navjot Kaur and Karan had lunch with Rahul at the Kharal Kalan camp site, after which they walked with Rahul. Rahul marched in the evening session flanked on one side by Navjot Kaur and on the other by Amrita Warring, wife of PPCC chief Amrinder Raja Warring. On the way from Adampur to Tanda, he interacted with both of them.

KC Venugopal, the AICC general secretary, had already invited Sidhu to attend the last day of the yatra in Srinagar on January 30. As for his presence on Republic Day, it depends on his final release consent. Rahul spent most of the fifth day interacting with Punjabi women. Numerous women, including MGNREGA and ASHA workers, interacted with him during his morning walk. He had also invited college girls to walk with him and talk to them. In the afternoon, Rahul met Swaran Kaur, the sister of BSP founder Kanshi Ram.
