A special investigation team of the Punjab Police probed the 2015 Kotkapura police firing case on Monday, with Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal appearing before them.

According to official sources, Badal arrived at the Punjab Police Officers’ Institute around 11:40 am.

SAD chief Badal was summoned to appear before the SIT led by Additional Director General of Police L K Yadav on Monday.

At the time of the desecration of religious texts in Faridkot in 2015 and the subsequent firing of police against those protesting against it, Badal was the Deputy Chief Minister and holding the Home portfolio.

At Bargari in Faridkot, torn pages of Guru Granth Sahib were found scattered and a ‘bir’ (copy) of Guru Granth Sahib was stolen.

In the aftermath of these incidents, two persons were killed in Behbal Kalan, Gurjeet Singh and Kishan Bhagwan Singh, and others were injured at Kotkapura in Faridkot.

The same SIT had previously questioned Badal on September 14. As well as last year, he was questioned by the SIT on June 26.

SAD chief Naunihal Singh was also grilled by another SIT in the 2015 Behbal Kalan police firing case on September 6.

Behbal Kalan firing investigation is being conducted by Naunihal-led SIT while Kotkapura firing investigation is being handled by Yadav-led SIT.
