Dumna villagers protested today against the closure of their dispensary near Morinda by the government.

Since the dispensary is closed, patients will have to visit Boor Majra village, 8 km away, for health care.

After the government rationalized staff at nearby subsidiary health centers and dispensaries run by the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Department, the dispensary was closed.

In a similar way to the Aam Aadmi Clinics, the government has decided to strengthen the existing primary health centers (PHC) of the state run by the Department of Health and Family Welfare.

A diagnostic laboratory is also operated at subsidised rates by the village panchayat in the dispensary. Locals said the facility would also be closed due to the merger of the local dispensary with the PHC at Boor Majra.

Under the government’s policy to provide improved health facilities to people, Ropar Civil Surgeon Dr Parminder Kumar said the dispensary was being merged with the PHC at Boor Majra in the coming weeks.
