The Sanjha Morcha overcame teething issues today and once again agreed to cooperate with the fact-finding panels investigating allegations that groundwater was contaminated, cattle died, diseases spread, and crops were not produced because of pollution generated by the ethanol plant.

In Mansurwala and nearby villages, the work on collecting samples was hampered on Wednesday when Sanjha Morcha members refused to cooperate. After an assurance from SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, members of the morcha agreed to rejoin the proceedings after alleging they were being “pressed” by the police.

Deputy Commissioner (General) Sagar Setia said the district administration had worked out the details with Sanjha Morcha members. He added that the joint lists for various committees, including official members recommended by the morcha, had been prepared and sampling would begin on Friday. Sanjha Morcha members will set up check-up camps in nearby villages, according to Setia.

In a statement released Wednesday, the ethanol plant administration refuted all allegations leveled by the protesters, stating that they followed all statutory norms and were open to any investigation.
