The yellow seemed to be back at its very best on Sunday as it faced off against Sunrisers Hyderabad, two days after Ravindra Jadeja handed over CSK’s captaincy to MS Dhoni.
The Chennai Super Kings beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 runs to keep their playoffs hopes alive. After the game, Dhoni spoke for the first time about his transition phase in CSK captaincy and how he helped Jadeja last year. He also admitted that Jadeja knew he would be leading CSK side last year itself when Dhoni left it to him in order have a smooth transition from captaincy to just being part of team as an allrounder who was making decisions on field.
“Between me and Jadeja, he knew last season that he would be given a chance to captain this year. He knew the whole time and had enough time to prepare,” said Dhoni at the post-match presentation. “It’s important for him to lead the side.” Over 2 games there was information being funneled in towards Jadeja-“and after that I left it up to him decide how best which angle of bowl” added Dhoni, who has been one of cricket’s most successful captains in world cricket over his career but reckoned spoon-feeding never helps a captain grow or be challenged. “Spoon feeding doesn’t really help a captain on field when you have those crucial decisions -you have take responsibility for them”-Dhoni concluded before Chennai took on Delhi Daredevils tonight with both teams still fighting for playoffs qualification
