Lok Sabha echoes Zira liquor factory issue

In light of the ongoing protests outside liquor factories in Zira, Ferozepur, and Amritsar, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla today called for setting up a central committee consisting of Punjab MPs to assess the situation due to groundwater pollution.

According to Aujla, Punjab is known as the land of gurus, who promote clean and healthy living conditions. “In Ferozepur district, there is a liquor factory against which people, including women and children, have been protesting for the past five months… People are suffering and dying of cancer because of effluents coming from the factory in the adjoining villages,” he said.

It is the same in Ferozepur, Amritsar, Garhshankar… everywhere because of (groundwater) pollution. There needs to be a stop to the pollution. The Centre should take note of the situation, Aujla said, along with Congress’ Punjab MPs Jasbir Singh and Amar Singh. Make a committee from Parliament that will visit these areas, make Punjab MPs its members and send them there,” Aujla said.
