Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 14(P2P): The Kerala government has filed
a petition in the Supreme Court against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Kerala is the first state to challenge this law in the Supreme Court. The
Kerala government has filed a case against CAA under Article 131 of the
Constitution. The petition described CAA as discriminatory and
unconstitutional. Article 131 of the Constitution gives original jurisdiction
to the Supreme Court in any dispute between the Government of India and any
state.
Earlier in December, the Kerala Assembly passed a resolution against citizenship law.The center was demanded not to implement this law. This proposal was presented by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. All the MLAs except Rajagopal supported this proposal.
CM Pinarayi Vijayan said, ‘Kerala has a long history of secularism, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, everyone reached our land. Christians and Muslims initially reached Kerala. Our tradition is inclusive. I want to make it clear that there will be no detention center in Kerala. Congress, CPI (M) in the assembly supported the proposal tabled by Pinarayi.
