The month-long Kashi-Tamil Samagam in Varanasi will be officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, according to a senior government official.
Mahanagar Chairman Vidyasagar Rai said he would also address the gathering during his three-hour visit.
An official inauguration of the samagam will be held at the Banaras Hindu University’s amphitheatre ground.
Varanasi is holding a Kashi-Tamil Samagam to rekindle cultural ties between Tamil Nadu and Varanasi.
The initiative is part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiative of the central government.
‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ celebrates the spirit of India’s independence and highlights Tamil culture and language.
Kashi (Varanasi) and Tamil Nadu will be connected through centuries-old knowledge bonds and ancient civilizational links during the period November 17 to December 16.
