Washington plans to work with Israel on building laser weapons systems, according to President Biden
During a visit to Jerusalem, President Joe Biden announced that American and Israeli defense contractors would jointly develop laser weapons that can shoot down enemy missiles.
In a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid at his side, Biden said: “The United States and Israel defense sectors will cooperate on new, high-energy laser weapon systems that can defend Israeli lives as well as those of American service members.”
During a meeting with Lapid, the president pledged that Washington would never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon, and would use “all elements of its national power” to do so. Declaring that the “scourge of antisemitism still marches around the world,” he added, “You have an ironclad commitment from the United States of America to Israel’s security, an ironclad commitment.”
