The reported injury to Yuvraj Singh’s much-anticipated teammate, Suryakumar Yadav, the Mumbai Indians’ premier batter who had been in sensational form this pre-season and would have been a key player for them coming into their opening game of the season against Delhi Capitals.
This would be a significant setback for all teams as Mumbai was hoping to kick-start their campaign with a victory.
With Surya out, the challenge of playing against West Indies would have been increased slightly. With that said, he sustained an injury in a T20I match series where he also bagged the player of the series.
“Surya is currently in the National Cricket Academy doing his rehabilitation,” a senior BCCI source unaware of recent developments told PTI on condition of anonymity. It’s unknown if he will be able to participate in the opening game.
“It’s possible that he might not risk playing the opener,” said Anderson, “This is something that would be shared with his medical team.”
He was retained by Mumbai Indians for ₹8 crore ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. He is likely to be fit for this game against Rajasthan Royals that will take place on April 2rd.
Players are required to undergo a fitness test in the presence of coaches after injury. The majority of India’s white-ball squad was asked to report for a 10-day fitness camp at the National Cricket Academy ahead of IPL 2022.
