India logs a 40% increase in daily cases with 5,233 new cases, Maharashtra worst hit

Over the last 24 hours, India has reported 5,233 new cases of COVID, 7 deaths, and 28,857 active cases.India recorded 5,233 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, with 7 deaths associated with the infection.

According to data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday (June 8), the country saw 3 345 discharges in the past 24 hours, making the overall recovery rate around 98.72 per cent and the total number of discharges reaching 4,26,36,710.

India’s health ministry today released data showing an increase in COVID-19 cases to 28,857. In the previous day, there were 26,976 active cases.

Within the last 24 hours, 1,881 new cases have been added to the COVID-19 caseload. According to the ministry, active cases represent 0.06 percent of all infections.

Currently, the country has a death toll of 5,24,715 people. It was reported in March 2020 that the first death in India was caused by the COVID pandemic.

Testing by ICMR:

To date, 85,35,22,623 samples have been tested for COVID-19 by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Three thousand thirteen thousand six hundred and sixty one samples were tested on Tuesday.

According to COVID Maharashtra statistics:

Mumbai contributed 1,242 new infections on Tuesday, while Maharashtra registered 1,881 new cases, an increase of 81% from Monday.

A single case of Omicron B.A.5 was reported in the health department’s report.

“A 31-year-old woman from Pune was found positive for B.A.5 variant”, the health department stated. The report further stated that the woman was asymptomatic and recovered in home isolation. Meanwhile, the state did not record any covid related deaths on Tuesday.

On Monday, Maharashtra reported 1,036 infections. Prior to this, it was on February 19 when Maharashtra recorded 1,635 new cases post which the cases were on a downward trend, however, once again on Tuesday, new Covid infections are close to 2000.
