India has sent a fourth consignment of 2,000 MTs of wheat to Afghanistan.

The fourth consignment of 2,000 metric tonnes of wheat is being dispatched for Afghanistan via the Attari-Wagah border on Tuesday.

Arindam Bagchi, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson said that as of now a total 8,000 metric tonnes has been sent to Afghanistan.

Over the last few days, we have partnered with WFP. The third and fourth convoy of wheat has arrived today through our partnership now amounting to 8,000 MTs. We are partnering together for the distribution of food within Afghanistan.

The first consignment of humanitarian aid from India reached Afghanistan’s Jalalabad through Pakistan on February 26th.

Meanwhile, the second convoy of India’s humanitarian assistance consisting of 2,000 MTs (metric tons)of wheat left Attari in Amritsar on March 3 for Jalalabad in Afghanistan.

In addition, India sent the third consignment of 2,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan via the Attari-Wagah border on March 8.

India announced that it will send 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan overland through Pakistan earlier this month.

Mr. Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Foreign Secretary of India had flagged off the first such consignment from Amritsar on Saturday.
