In new agreement for flights to Canada, SGPC objects to state's ignorance

In the new agreement regarding flights between Canada and India, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) strongly objects to the Union Aviation Ministry ignoring Punjab, including the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar.

Gurcharan Singh Grewal, spokesperson of the SGPC and general secretary, said there was resentment among Sikhs in India and abroad due to this discriminatory attitude.

As part of the new agreement, airports were included for flights from many Indian cities, but Amritsar was left out, which discriminated against Punjabis, especially Sikhs.

A special resolution for demanding direct flights from Amritsar was passed during the March 30, 2022 budget session of the SGPC, headed by SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami. The government deliberately failed to provide its fair share of flights to Punjab. Punjabis are being treated unfairly. It costs them a lot of money to travel from Delhi to Punjab, in addition to losing valuable time,” he said.

It is imperative that this airport receive its fair share of flights from Canada to India, Grewal requested to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
