On Friday, September 9, 2022, Ayan Mukerji’s much-anticipated visual spectacle Brahmastra was released in cinemas.
The Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer released on 5019 screens in India this year, making it one of the biggest releases in Hindi film.
Critics and audience alike gave the fantasy adventure mixed reviews upon its theatrical release. Some praised the director’s vision of an ‘Astraverse’ and the spectacular VFX in the film, but others felt that Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s relationship was superficially treated.
In terms of its opening at the box office on its first day, early trade reports predict that Brahmastra will gross Rs 35+ crores across all languages.
With strong advance bookings for Day 1 of the Hindi version of Brahmastra, the Ayan Mukerji-directed film is expected to start strong. Based on spot bookings and IMAX 3D screens sold out on Friday, we expect the magnum opus to mint more than Rs 25 crore.
As a teenager, Ayan Mukerji credited his inspiration for Brahmastra to Hollywood fantasy films and books.
In creating Brahmastra, all of these inspirations that had been pent up within me came out and merged into a very original colour. “I realized then and even today as we’re almost finished the movie… that this same fact makes me very proud that Brahmastra is a very original film,” he said in a video before the film was released.
Amitabh Bachchan and Mouni Roy also appear in Brahmastra, along with Shah Rukh Khan and Nagarjuna Akkineni.
