An unprecedented wave of resignations in Congress has jolted the Grand Old Party ahead of the Gujarat assembly elections in the first week of December.
Bhavesh Katara, Congress member from Jhalod constituency, resigned from the party and also notified speaker Nimaben Acharya of his resignation on Wednesday. It is reported that Katara will join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
It is noteworthy that Bhavesh Katara quit the Congress party just hours after Bhagvanbhai D Barad resigned from the party. In addition to resigning from all Congress posts, Barad submitted his resignation to the Speaker on Wednesday. After consulting with his supporters, Barad decided to leave Congress, according to ANI. In addition, the news agency reported that the former Congress member will join the BJP.
On Tuesday, Congress MLA and tribal leader Mohansinh Rathwa resigned from the Grand Old Party and joined the BJP, giving the party a second jolt.
“The Congress never said they wouldn’t give me a ticket (for my son),” Mohansinh Rathwa, a ten-time Member of the State Assembly, told the media at the party headquarters. As a result of the work done by the BJP government and PM Narendra Modi in our tribal areas, I decided to join BJP before Congress said anything about it.
On November 5, Himanshu Vyas, the secretary responsible for the Indian Overseas Congress for the AICC, resigned and joined BJP. Himanshu Vyas explained to Republic TV that there is no communication between Congress’ high command and the party’s leadership.
