West Bengal’s government and banks approved a doorstep banking initiative on Friday during a meeting.
Bank officials in West Bengal will visit senior citizens’ homes to verify life certificates for pensioners.
In the past, getting pension certificates required senior citizens to be present at banks or to make video calls. It was decided, however, that their presence was not required.
The West Bengal government and 100 bankers present at the meeting supported doorstep banking to facilitate pensions, according to RBI guidelines.
Before issuing pension certificates to senior citizens, bank executives will visit their residences for physical verification.
