Kanwar Grewal and Ranjit Bawa were searched simultaneously by Income Tax Department and CRPF teams today. When the report was filed, the operation had begun around 9:30 am.
As a result of numerous complaints, Income Tax officials from Ludhiana led the operation to verify the singers’ alleged tax theft. This operation was specifically designed to compare the singers’ actual earnings with their disclosed wealth.
The Ministry of Home Affairs banned Grewal’s song ‘Rihai’. Sikh prisoners who had languished in jails for several years were mentioned in the song. His house in Taj Towers, Mohali, and another in Bathinda were searched by I-T officials.
The singer Ranjit Bawa’s residences and commercial properties in Chandigarh, Mohali and Batala were also raided.
It was not allowed for the singers’ family members to go outside. Visitors were also not allowed. If any incriminating financial activity is detected during the operations, a media release will be released later.
NIA officials have been questioning Punjabi singers about the ‘influence’ of gangsters in Punjabi music as part of the I-T operations.
