Gurus and families shouldn't be personified: SGPC in schools

A new public notice was issued by the SGPC on its official social media handles to the administrations of all schools, colleges, and universities urging them to refrain from personifying Gurus, their families, or the Sahibzade of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji since such acts are against Sikh traditions.

The notice was issued in conjunction with the Centre’s celebration of ‘Veer Bal Diwas’. For this occasion, schools were instructed to conduct awareness events and literary activities.

As the Sahibzade exhibited sacrifice, courage, steadfastness, confidence in one’s abilities, schools were instructed to involve their students in the events.

Identifying similar acts of courage and narrating them to other students in class was another suggestion.

A report should be submitted by January 28 if these events were conducted between December 26 and January 26 in educational institutions.

SGPC had appealed to the Centre to replace “Veer Bal Diwas” with “Sahibzade Shahadat Diwas”, but in vain.
