“The Punjab state police are well aware of the widespread drug threat. As directed by the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, Gaurav Yadav spoke with newsmen in Tarn Taran on Monday. “The police are doing their best, and public cooperation is necessary to wipe out the menace,” he said.

During his visit to Tarn Taran, the DGP interacted with the police force and learned about their problems. A multipurpose hall and a canteen were inaugurated at the Police Lines on this occasion.

Neither terrorist Harwinder Singh Rinda, who lived in Pakistan, nor gangster Happy Sanghera had been confirmed dead by the police. Lakhbir Singh Landa of Harike, a Canadian gangster, is close to Rinda.

Police and the government are committed to eliminating drug menace and gangster culture at the grassroot level, according to the DGP. To bring back gangsters who had taken shelter overseas, the police have issued Red Corner notices to gangsters and are in contact with the Union Government and Interpol.

Those gangsters with minor criminal involvement could be brought into mainstream by the police, he said.

The Punjab Police and armed forces are looking for young people to join them. In the state Police Department, the state government plans to recruit 12,000 youths every year.

Yadav welcomed the BSF’s expansion of its working area and said the police use it to check drug and arms smuggling in partnership with the border force.

The police are checking gunhouses and will cancel licenses issued with forged documents, he said.

According to the DGP, Amritpal Singh, leader of Waris Punjab De, is not above the law and is free to act within the scope of the Constitution while enjoying freedom of expression, but he must not go beyond that.

A number of armed supporters have often been seen accompanying Amritpal Singh at functions.
