In connection with the Patra Chawl land scam case, Sanjay Raut’s judicial custody has been extended until 18 October.
Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh representing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed the bail request of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, saying that Raut’s co-accused in the case, Pravin Raut, was his “proxy,” “front man,” and “close confidant.”
As his judicial custody period came to an end, Raut appeared before MG Deshpande on Monday. He will be able to make a further bail application on Tuesday, when he will be granted an extension of his jail custody.
He had sought bail from the special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court last month for his alleged role in a money laundering case pertaining to irregularities in the redevelopment of Patra Chawl in Goregaon in north Mumbai.
Aside from Pravin Raut, a co-accused in the case, Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh opposes Sanjay Raut’s bail.
As part of Singh’s testimony, he repeated the ED’s conclusion that Pravin Raut was acting as Sanjay Raut’s proxy behind the scenes. Sena MP has not only misled the probe agency, but also passed the blame to others, the ED told the court. An ASG statement stated that Sanjay Ruat was actively involved across the entire project, citing the testimony of a witness.
Goreggaon’s Patra Chawl, also known as Siddharth Nagar, spread over 47 acres with 672 tenant families, is the subject of an ED investigation.
