On Tuesday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann directed officers to seize the property of drug peddlers to combat the drug menace in the state.
During a meeting to review the state’s law and order situation, Mann reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating drugs from the state. In order to ensure stern action, the government has already imprisoned the big fish involved in drug peddlers and their property must be seized immediately.
If necessary, the CM said, the requisite laws will be amended and the officer in whose jurisdiction drugs are sold will be held responsible. Mann instructed the officers to ensure that the villagers unanimously passed resolutions to make their villages drug free, and to give them grants under the Rural Development Fund, among other things. As part of the resolution, he said that all measures would be taken to ensure the security of the villages that pass it.
Additionally, he held detailed discussions with Agriculture Department and Punjab Agriculture University officials regarding the next kharif crop cycle.
A key objective of the state government is to make agriculture a profitable venture and to supplement the incomes of farmers with crop diversification.
According to Mann, the government will consult the farmers directly and will hold a detailed consultation with them before sowing the next crop. To get farmers’ opinions on the cropping pattern, he asked PAU officials to meet with them.
Farmers and other stakeholders will be consulted on any policy related to them now in Punjab.
