Amrit Bal-Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang’s extortion and targeted killing module was busted by the Khanna police.

Babbar Khalsa, a terrorist organization based abroad, is linked to the module.

Five illegal weapons and 53 live cartridges have been seized from 13 people arrested so far, including target suppliers, shooters, and shelter providers.

A press conference was held today concerning this issue by the Ludhiana Range IGP Kaustubh Sharma, the Khanna SSP Harish Dayama Omparkash and the SP(Investigation) Pragya Jain.

Among those arrested are Mahinder Verma, alias DK, from Madhya Pradesh, Ramesh from Rajasthan, Sandeep Singh Shelly from Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurjant Singh, alias Janti, and Sukhvir Singh, both of Ludhiana; Rafi and Waris Ali, both of Malerkotla; Charlas and Parveen Singh, both of Gurdaspur; Harsimranjit Singh Simma, Sarabjot Singh, Daljit Kaur, alias Mano, and Shamsher Singh, all four from Amritsar.

Amrit Bal and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gave 14 targeted killings to the suspects, according to the IG.

On December 5, 2022, the Khanna police arrested Mahinder Verma and Ramesh Chauhan, and seized a .32 bore pistol, a .315 country-made rifle, and 10 live cartridges from them. Their connections with gangster Bal were revealed during their questioning. According to Bal, they were also sent to Yamunanagar in Haryana by Bal in November 2022, but they were unable to kill due to some reasons.

As a result of the disclosures of these two, three more gang members were arrested, Gurjant, Sandeep, and Sukhvir, with a US-made .45 bore gun and 20 live cartridges. On further questioning, these three admitted that they were under Bal’s orders to kill Mahinder and Ramesh in Batala, and Harsimranjit, Shamsher, and Charlas would provide shelter and weapons there, said the inspector general. On December 18, these three were caught with illegal weapons, according to the IG.

The nabbed woman, Daljit Kaur, is a close confidant of Bal; Sarabjot Singh and Parmod, alias Bahman (yet to be arrested), are her aides. According to the IG, the three got instructions from Bal and Bhagwanpuria about targeted killings and then arranged resources for shooters, adding Sarabjot and Kaur were arrested on December 24-25.

According to Dayama, the police have also nominated Jagdeep Singh alias Jaggu Bhagwanpuria of Bhagwanpur, Amrit Bal of Bholath (now in the US), Pargat Singh of Diggi in Patiala (now in England), Jack of Rajasthan, and Parmod of Amritsar. In addition to Sections 386, 384, 506 of the IPC, Section 25 of the Arms Act, Sections 17,18 and 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967, all the suspects were booked under Sections 386, 384, 506 of the IPC.

In addition to engaging young boys through Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms, Bal and Bhagwanpuria provided weapons and money through their handlers. The police have taken measures to ensure the safety and security of those who were on their target after busting this module. Other members may also be arrested as a result of further investigation,” the SP added.

DSP Jashdeep Gill, SHO Khanna City Inspector Sandeep Kumar, and CIA Inspector Amandeep Singh also participated in the operation.
