Azam Khan is granted interim bail by the Supreme Court

There are a number of cases against Khan in Sitapur jail, including a case of land grabbing against him.

Azam Khan, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, was granted interim bail on Thursday by the Supreme Court in a cheating case.

Due to the unusual facts of the case, a bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao invoked its special power under Article 142 of the Constitution to grant relief to Khan.

The interim bail will remain in effect until a regular bail application is decided by the court.

The bench, which included Justices B R Gavai and A S Bopanna, said that it was a fit case to invoke Article 142.

Khan is currently lodged in Sitapur jail for land grabbing charges he faces in Rampur.
