‘Atal Cancer Care Centre’ will start in Ambala Cantonment on May 9

Chief Minister and National President of BJP will inaugurate it

Chandigarh, May 6 ( P2P)  – Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal and Rajya Sabha MP and BJP National President, Sh. J.P. Nadda will inaugurate the ‘Atal Cancer Care Centre’ at Ambala Cantonment in Haryana on May 9. Haryana Health Minister Sh. Anil Vij and MP Sh. Rattan Lal Kataria will also be present on this occasion.

Sharing more information in this regard, an official spokesperson said that the ‘Tertiary Care Cancer Centre’ (TCCC) i.e. ‘Atal Cancer Care Centre’ established in the Civil Hospital of Ambala Cantonment will not only cater to Haryana but its neighbouring states like Punjab, Himachal and Uttarakhand and others as well. Thus, cancer patients will get access to affordable and comprehensive treatment.

He said that Haryana Government had sent a proposal to the Centre Government for setting up of 50-bedded TCCC in Ambala Cantonment which was approved in the year 2017 and then its foundation stone was laid by the Health Minister in July 2018. As per the Central Government, only Rs 45 crore was to be spent on this, however, the State Government requested the Central Government for ensuring state-of-the-art equipments for the Centre. Thus, the project cost was enhanced to Rs 72.127 crore. Of this, Rs. 43.98 crore has been spent on modern equipment and Rs 28.18 crore on building and services. He said that this is the first of its kind among TCCC secondary level institutions. Other facilities available here are Radiotherapist, Medical Physicist, RTT etc. Various specialized posts, including, Surgical, Medical and Radiation Oncologist, Radiation Physicist cum RSO, Radiation Therapy Technologist and HR posts have been created.

The spokesperson also informed that OPD, IPD, palliative care services are provided to cancer patients in this ‘Atal Cancer Care Centre’. A mammography unit has been also started. In fact latest equipments like Linear Accelerator, Brachytherapy Unit, CT Simulator etc. have been installed in this Centre which are not even available in PGIMS Rohtak. He explained that the linear accelerator is used in the treatment of tumors, it releases high-energy X-rays or electrons which destroy cancer cells. Brachytherapy provides internal beam radiation therapy and is often used to treat cancers of the head and neck, breast, cervix, prostate, etc. He informed that ICMR has also approved a ‘Hospital Based Cancer Registry’ for TCCC, Ambala Cantt, which will provide information about the specific locations and types of cancer that occur frequently.

The spokesperson said that under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS), a Population Based Screening (PBS) of 30 years & above is being carried out by the State Government. Laboratories for cancer diagnosis have been strengthened and Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC), Pap Smear, Fluid Cytology, Biopsy etc. are being done in District Civil Hospitals.

In addition, Free Travel Facility (FTF) is being provided to cancer patients in ordinary buses of Haryana Roadways with an accomplice for treatment and follow-up which is presently being availed by around 5,000-6,000 patients every year.
