Rahul Gandhi began the Punjab leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Wednesday morning by paying obeisance at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib.
As he walked to the place of worship, he wore a turban and a T-shirt with half sleeves.
Among the party leaders accompanying Gandhi was Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.
Following the conclusion of the Haryana leg of the march in Ambala district, Gandhi offered prayers at the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Tuesday. In Fatehgarh Sahib, he stayed the night at Sirhind on Tuesday evening.
Many party workers had gathered here for the yatra in spite of the harsh winter.
During the Punjab leg of the yatra, it will pass through Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib, Khanna, Sahnewal, Ludhiana, Goraya, Phagwara, Jalandhar, Dasyua, and Mukerian.
Before the Yatra began, Haryana PCC president handed over the flag to Punjab PCC president.
As Punjabis are known for their hospitality, Raja Warring assured Rahul that Punjab would provide a rousing reception to the yatra. This yatra is to save the Constitution, so Punjabis should not sleep for eight days. The Mahatma Gandhi Dandi March was compared to it by him.
Bhupinder Hooda said Rahul had become the voice of all sections of society, and the yatra was meant to save the nation.
Rahul said the BJP spreads hatred, so he decided to go on a yatra to spread love and harmony among communities.
