Stubble burning has been declared a war by Punjab’s Government in order to prevent pollution in the environment. A blueprint for controlling stubble burning at the district level was discussed today by Punjab Agriculture Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal.

Punjab faces a major challenge in controlling stubble burning, as the issue is highlighted nationally and internationally, giving Punjab a bad name.

Rather than just doing paperwork, Dhaliwal called on all officers and employees to work practically on the ground. Until November 7, senior officers of the Agriculture Department are not to grant leave to any officers or employees. As part of the minister’s order, a state-level control room was created.
To make people aware of the harmful effects of stubble burning, Dhaliwal will meet some Cabinet colleagues and Vice-Chancellors of state universities.
