According to officials, Satyendar Jain, Delhi Health Minister, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday in a money laundering case.
Immovable properties worth Rs 4.81 crore have been provisionally attached by the ED to Akinchan Developers Pvt Ltd, Indo Metal Impex Pvt Ltd, Paryas Infosolutions Pvt Ltd, Manglayatan Projects Pvt Ltd, and JJ Ideal Estate Pvt Ltd. The Delhi Health Minister’s relatives include Swati Jain, Sushila Jain, and Indu Jain.
According to the ED sources, during the investigation of the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) case, they discovered that during Jain’s time as a public servant, the companies he controlled and owned received accommodation entries worth Rs 4.81 crore from shell companies in exchange for cash transferred to Kolkata-based entry operators via Hawala.
In and around Delhi, these funds were either used for the direct purchase of land or for the repayment of loans taken for the purchase of agricultural land.
An Enforcement Directorate attachment of Satyendar Jain’s property worth Rs 4.81 crore came just after his arrest. In the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Government, Satyendar Jain is the Minister of Health, Home, Power, Public Works, Industries, Urban Development and Flood, and Irrigation and Water. He is a Shakurbasti MLA.
Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Chief Minister and Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), said that his sources had told him that Satyendar Jain would likely be arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the near future.
In response to Satyendar Jain’s arrest, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, “A fake case has been going on for 8 years against Satyendra Jain. The ED has contacted him many times, but they stopped calling him for several years as they did not receive any response. Now they have resumed calling him because Satyendra Jain is the election commissioner for Himachal Pradesh. “BJP is losing badly in Himachal Pradesh. That’s why Satyendra Jain has been arrested today.
The case is completely fake, and they will be released within days.”
