Last night, a police officer assigned to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team shot dead a female cop with an AK-47 rifle.
Using the assault rifle, Gursewak Singh (32), the constable shot himself near Dagru village in Moga after fleeing the scene. Her wife Amanpreet Kaur (26) was a resident of Chuchak village in Zira, while her husband Gursewak Singh was from Naurang ke Siyal village. According to reports, both of them stayed at Police Lines.
Amanpreet Kaur was riding her bike back from the Ferozepur Cantonment police station late last night when the incident occurred. As a computer operator, she was assigned to the company.
The woman constable was killed on the spot by Gursewak, who was probably following them in his car near Baba Sher Shah Wali Chowk. He allegedly fired five rounds of which four hit her, blocking their path and allegedly shooting five rounds. She was brought to the Civil Hospital by her relative, where she was declared dead.
According to information, Amanpreet Kaur married Kulwant Singh in 2014 and the couple had a daughter. The Punjab Police hired Amanpreet as a constable in 2016 after her marriage.
They were divorced after three years of marriage, according to sources. Kulwant Singh was caring for her daughter.
Kulwant told mediapersons that Amanpreet recently realized her mistake and wanted to return to the family. In addition to coming to meet her daughter, she loved her very much. Also, I did not stop her,” Kulwant said, adding that he had no idea why the incident occurred.
According to preliminary reports, the deceased constables had relationships. Both parties had reportedly had an altercation a few days back that apparently turned ugly, said the SSP, adding that they were investigating the matter further.
