It has been exactly a year since a person was beaten to death for committing sacrilege at the Golden Temple’s sanctum sanctorum (on December 18, 2021).
A private satellite TV channel, which was recording the Gurbani Kirtan, captured the incident. A video clip of a man jumping off a metal grill inside the complex went viral on social media. SGPC employees nabbed him and whisked him away. A body was later found inside the temple complex near the office of the SGPC.
SGPC had called the sacrilege bid a conspiracy against the Sikh faith and sought a thorough investigation to find out who was behind it.
DCP (Law and Order) Parminder Singh Bhandal said they were waiting for responses from police departments around the country after sharing photographs of the deceased. The police were in contact with the SGPC, which had constituted a team in this regard and fixed a reward of Rs 5 lakh.
