Outer Ring Road Companies Association has written to chief minister Basavaraj Bommai to express its regret that the Bengaluru IT companies lost 225 crores on August 30 as their employees were stuck in traffic for five hours.
They wrote that the ORR’s poor infrastructure has reached a crisis point. “Over a half a million people are estimated to be employed in the Outer Ring Road area, between Krishnarajapuram and the Central Silk Board area of Bengaluru. It is appalling that there is no focus on the development of infrastructure in this particular area. The 17 km stretch also provides direct and indirect employment to over a million people and contributes significantly to the state’s economy. It is now a global concern that Bengaluru’s infrastructure has collapsed, as well as questioning the city’s growth,” it said.
Moreover, if the situation remains the same, the association is concerned that the companies may seek an alternative destination.
In an earlier visit, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai promised to address all civic issues in Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road. Storm water drains in the city have even been blocked by properties and encroachments ordered by him.
