In last year’s RPG attack on the Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters, Mohali, Deepak Ranga, the main shooter, has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
A statement from the NIA said he was arrested from Gorakhpur on Wednesday morning. The day before the attack, Deepak was spotted riding a bike with a juvenile accomplice.
Punjab and Delhi Police arrested the juvenile earlier from Mumbai. Bhagwant Mann’s newly formed government and the police administration were shaken by the brazen attack.
The gangster-turned-terrorist Ranga, who hails from Surakpur village in Jhajjar, Haryana, is a close associate of the Canada-based gangster-turned-terrorist Lakhbir Singh Sandhu, alias Landa, and Pakistan-based gangster-turned-terrorist Harvinder Singh Sandhu, alias Rinda.
In addition to the RPG attack, Ranga has been involved in other violent terrorist and criminal acts, including killings. In addition to terror funds, Rinda and Landa provided logistical support to him, according to an NIA spokesperson.
It was reported in September 2022 that terrorist outfits and terror elements operating abroad were working in tandem with organised criminal gangs operating in northern states to commit targeted killings and criminal acts. In addition, it was revealed that gun runners and illegal arms and ammunition manufacturers and suppliers were also involved in smuggling arms, ammunition, explosives, and IEDs across the border.
According to the statement, the NIA has also arrested 19 members of various organized criminal gangs, two arms suppliers, and one financier connected to the network since three cases were registered against the terror-gangster-drug smuggler network.
