Several people, including a 10-year-old boy and his father, were arrested for glorifying gun culture, but the FIR was later canceled after it was pointed out that the firearm was a toy gun. The case was filed at the Kathunangal police station on Wednesday.

A picture of the boy’s father on his son’s Facebook page showed the child holding a gun and wearing a bandolier.

Disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant is punishable under Section 188 of the IPC.

Social media and public displays of firearms have been banned by the state government.

A FIR was filed against four people – a man, his minor son, and two others, all of whom are shown in the picture.

Bikram Singh Majithia, a former minister and senior SAD leader, accused the AAP government of registering the FIR since the child only held a “toy gun.”

In Bhagwant Mann’s Rangla (vibrant) Punjab, even minor children now carry toy guns,” Majithia said.

An FIR had been registered, but not specifically against the man’s 10-year-old son, said Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural) Swapan Sharma.

After a thorough investigation, the police canceled the FIR against all the persons forthwith after there was some confusion initially.

The boy’s father told reporters in Amritsar that Kathunangal SHO called him.

My Facebook photo is the one he was referring to. It was a 2015 photo, I told him. He is now 10 years old, I said he was four years old then.

Delete the photos, he told me. However, I learned yesterday that a case had been filed. “I informed the Majitha DSP about these old photos,” the boy’s father, a businessman, said.

Asked if he had informed his child about the FIR, he replied, “No.”. I don’t know what his child will experience.”
