4th Covid wave: India registers 7,584 cases of infections, active cases rise to 36,267

On Friday, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported 7,584 new cases of Covid in India in the last 24 hours, more than 300 more than yesterday.

As of yesterday, there were 32,498 active cases in the country. As a percentage of total cases in the country, active cases comprise 0.08 percent. Three hundred fifty-five tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, which resulted in a daily positivity rate of 2.26 percent and a weekly positivity rate of 1.50 percent. The health ministry reports that 3,791 Covid patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of patients recovered since the onset of the pandemic to 4,26,44,092.

98.70 percent of the cases were recovered. The death toll climbed to 5,24,747 during this period as 24 patients died from Covid. The nationwide vaccination drive has so far administered 194.76 crore doses of vaccine.

Following a surge in Covid cases across the country, the Union Health Ministry is closely monitoring the situation in the states like Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi, and Karnataka and has asked them to follow the five-fold strategy and amp-up testing said official sources on Thursday.

Sources told ANI that the Ministry has also asked the States to monitor clusters of new Covid cases and follow Covid’s appropriate behavior. A letter sent by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan recently asked officials from Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu to closely monitor emerging clusters, maintain an adequate number of testing, and send samples from infected individuals to be sequenced.
